Man's Death Sparks Critical Incident

A critical incident investigation has been declared after a man died on the Central Coast today.

About 3.50pm (Thursday 17 October 2024), police were called to Terrigal Drive, Erina, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District arrived and found a man armed with a knife, with wounds to his body.

Police attempted to speak to the man, who was still armed with the knife, and when he refused Police directions a Taser was deployed.

The man was treated by police before the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics, who treated the man for self-inflicted knife wounds; however, he died at the scene.

While the man is yet to be formally identified, he is believed to be aged in his 50s.

A crime scene has been established and a critical incident team from Tuggerah Lakes Police District is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation is also subject to an independent review.
