A 39-year-old man has been charged following ongoing investigations into the death of an infant in Gordonvale in 2021.
It will be alleged at approximately 4.30am on September 27, 2021, emergency services were called to a McSweeney Crescent home in response to reports of an unresponsive child, 23-months-old.
He was transported to the Cairns Hospital for treatment.
It will further be alleged the child later died in Cairns Hospital where suspicious injuries were found on his face and body.
The Cairns Child Protection Unit began an investigation into the boy's death under Operation Tango Comter and yesterday charged a 39-year-old Gordonvale man with one count each of torture and manslaughter.
He is due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court today, April 22.
