March 2025: Targeted Intervention Program Insights

Webinar

A captioned recording of this webinar will be available in the coming days

Details

The Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) Program is one of Department of Communities and Justice's key initiatives to strengthen families and communities across NSW. It prioritises children, young people and families who are experiencing or at risk of vulnerabilities associated with child abuse and neglect and ensures that issues are addressed early, and protective factors are enhanced. It does this by increasing access to services at the point where they can have the most impact: early in life and early in need. In doing so, TEI aims to reduce the number of children coming into contact with the child protection system.

The evaluation of the TEI program was conducted independently by Taylor Fry in collaboration with Social Ventures Australia and Gamarada Universal Indigenous Resources Pty Ltd. The primary goal of the evaluation was to assess the overall impact of the TEI program and identify areas for improvement. It included a comprehensive process, outcome, and economic evaluation. The evaluation highlights TEI's positive impact on reducing the involvement of children and young people in the child protection system, as well as the program's economic benefits.

In this FACSIAR Lunch and Learn, representatives from the evaluation team outlined the findings of the evaluation. Anthony Shannon, Director of Early Intervention and Inclusion team in DCJ discussed what these findings mean for program, policy and practice.

The webinar was chaired by Jessica Stewart, Executive Director, FACSIAR, Department of Communities and Justice
