Celebrating the remarkable achievements of local women and progressing gender equality will be the focus of this year's International Women's Day (IWD) event in Kingston.
The presentation of the Kingston Women of the Year Awards will again be the highlight, with 29 outstanding nominees in the running across four categories - Courageous Commitment, Excelling in Arts or Sport, Inspiring Innovation, and Success in STEM.
Kingston City Hall will play host to the celebration that will also include a keynote address from Jamila Rizvi. Jamila is a best-selling author, dynamic speaker, and advocate, renowned for her sharp insights on gender equality, leadership, and social change. There will also be two dance performances by Jalwa Dance Company.
Mayor Georgina Oxley said these will be our seventh Kingston Women of the Year Awards and once again we have been blown away by the quality of our nominees.
"These awards are one of my favourite events on the calendar, with Kingston City Hall filled with people celebrating the achievements of incredible women - it's fantastic," Cr Oxley said.
"We know that women are doing exceptional things every day and they deserve to be recognised. Each of our nominees has such an enormous impact and I have been personally touched and inspired by their leadership, dedication and personal stories."
The Kingston Women of the Year Awards will run from 9.30am – 12.00pm on Friday 7 March. Tickets are free; however, bookings are essential for catering purposes. Head to kingston.vic.gov.au/community/events/upcoming-events/kingston-women-of-the-year-awards
