Marine Search And Rescue, Lady Elliot Island

A search and rescue operation is underway to locate a man, missing from a vessel which overturned off Lady Elliot Island near Gladstone this morning, June 16.

The yacht was approximately four nautical miles south of the island when an Epirb was activated at 5am.

It is understood the vessel was travelling from Yeppoon to Brisbane, with three people on board when it upturned.

Police and emergency services commenced a search and rescue operation involving multiple vessels, police divers and the rescue helicopter.

Just after 10.15am, the rescue helicopter located two people in the water.

They were winched to safety and taken to hospital for treatment.

The search continues for a missing man.
