Marmor's Memorial Park will be completely transformed over the coming weeks as Rockhampton Regional Council carries out an upgrade totalling more than $265,000.
Parks, Sport and Open Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the refurbishment includes a new play space, upgraded seating, footpaths and gardens.
"The works for Marmor Memorial Park will commence on Monday and be carried out for around eight weeks," Cr Rutherford said.
"Over this time, residents will see a complete and exciting overhaul of the area, with a major part of the upgrade being a brand new, all ages playground.
"This will replace the current play equipment and include a multi-platformed playground tower and a standalone swing set - and all completely covered by a new shade structure.
"I am thrilled that Council is able to deliver this upgrade through our Renewals Program and I can't wait to see the community and visitors enjoying the new space once all is complete."
Councillor Rutherford said the upgrade also adds benefits for future commemorative events held at the park.
"The additional seating and improved pathways will make a big difference for the local ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services that take place at the park," Cr Rutherford said.
"Additionally, two sandstone garden beds featuring artwork dedicated to our current and past soldiers will be installed.
"I'd like to thank the community groups who took part in the consultation during the planning stages of this upgrade – it's really exciting to see all come to fruition."
Marmor Memorial Park will be closed from Monday, 15 January.
Works are expected to be completed by early March, subject to weather and ground conditions.
