RAAF

The Defence Community Marquee at the Australian International Airshow, Avalon provided a welcoming space where current and former service members, along with their loved ones, could connect with the support networks that help them at every stage of their military journey.

Squadron Leader Chris Hayden of No. 1 Security Forces Squadron spoke about the importance of these organisations.

"It takes a village to raise a child. Our defence network is similar in its ongoing support of every ADF member and their families.

"The support these organisations provide is crucial, ensuring that no one feels alone in their service or transition back to civilian life." Squadron Leader Hayden said

The Defence Community Marquee was home to a range of organisations, each playing a vital role in supporting the military community. Among those present were Aussie Hero Quilts, Australian Catholic University (ACU), Australian Military Wives Choir, Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA), Kookaburra Kids, Legacy Australia, Open Arms, RSL Australia and Women's Integrated Networking Groups (WINGS).

Lincoln Trainer, a former Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Australian Navy, was at the marquee representing Australian Catholic University (ACU).

"We're one of the leading universities in Victoria offering tailored programs for veterans looking to transition into study and civilian careers."

The area was buzzing with energy as families engaged with various support services. Children excitedly collected stamps for their Avalon Passports, gathered pins and merchandise as their parents connected with stallholders.

A former Combat Field Engineer with the Royal Australian Army, Jason was in the marquee representing Soldier On

"We focus on connecting with defence members and their families, ensuring they have the tools to thrive in and beyond their military careers."

The presence of these organisations at the Defence Community Marquee highlights the significance of strong support networks within the defence community. Beyond the roar of jet engines and dazzling aerial displays, these stalls served as a reminder that behind every uniform is a person, and behind every person is a network of unwavering support.
