Marrawah Fire Station Ready To Serve Far North West

Tasmanian Government

The far north-west coast's fire and emergency response capabilities have been bolstered with the opening of the new, purpose-built Marrawah Fire Station.

The $1.4 million project incorporates the Marrawah Community Hall for brigade training activities, a brigade office area, and a Forward Operations Centre during large-scale emergencies in the area.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said supporting our rural and remote fire and emergency response capabilities is essential.

"When bushfires get going in Circular Head they can be absolutely ferocious – just look at the 2016 fires that burned for months.

"The new Marrawah Fire Station is purpose-built to be the Forward Operations Centre for major events in the far North West, as well as delivering better day to day response for the community.

"Our rural emergency services first responders volunteer day and night to protect their community, and this new facility will support them with that crucial work.

"The collaboration with council in the design of the new station co-located with the local hall is a perfect example of how we can build fit- for -purpose projects that benefit both TFS and the community.

"Through our government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we will continue to back in our fire and emergency services to keep our communities safe."
