Victoria has scored another win on the international sporting calendar, with the Matildas set to return to Melbourne to face Argentina.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos announced the Allan Labor Government has secured a deal for the women's national team to play the South American powerhouse in an exhibition match at Marvel Stadium on 30 May.
The showdown pits the stars of the Matildas against South America's third highest ranked women's team, giving fans and visitors the chance to see some of the world's best footballers up close. The two teams last met in Melbourne in 2019, when the Matildas claimed a 3-0 victory to win the Cup of Nations.
Events like these build on Melbourne's standing as the sporting and major events capital, with the game adding to two British and Irish Lions matches, the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces French Impressionism exhibition at the NGV and the Rising festival as blockbuster events strengthening the State's winter calendar.
Victoria has a proud history of backing women's football, with the Labor Government delivering more than $42 million for the Home of the Matildas at La Trobe University.
The facility is a cutting-edge training hub for the national team and its other teams including the Young Matildas, Junior Matildas and ParaMatildas.
Pre-sale tickets for the blockbuster Matildas match against Argentina will go on sale on tomorrow on Friday, 28 March 2025 at 10.00am AEDT and general public tickets available on Monday, 31 March 2025 at 4.00pm AEDT. Full ticketing information will be available via matildas.com.au.
