NSW Gov

A boost to critical health services in the State's Far West is a step closer, with the master plan released for the upgrade of the Broken Hill Health Service Emergency Department (ED) and enhancement of the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit.

The $10 million upgrade of the ED will better meet the critical health needs of the region and support the delivery of contemporary models of care.

The purpose-built Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit has been co-designed by staff, carers and members of the community with lived experience.

When complete, the project will include:

  • an upgraded and modernised ED.
  • improved public access and wayfinding to the ED.
  • an enhanced, purpose-built Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit.
Broken Hill Health Service redevelopment plan

The master plan identifies the key elements of the redevelopment and shows how the new spaces will connect with existing services. The full range of services to be delivered and timing of the project will be determined as planning progresses.
