McQuade Park in the heart of Windsor is set for a major renewal, with work now underway to develop a comprehensive Masterplan that will guide the park's future for generations to come.
The concept Masterplan for McQuade Park is supported by $165,000 in funding from the NSW Government's Metropolitan Greenspace Program with matching funding provided by Hawkesbury City Council.
The Masterplan will set a long-term vision to improve amenity, accessibility and functionality across the entire park. It will balance modern recreational and sporting needs with the site's strong cultural heritage, identity and environmental significance. Development of detailed designs and plans will guide future improvements for a well-integrated, inclusive public space that reflects the evolving needs of the Windsor Community and complements the park's role as a vibrant setting for recreation, sport and social engagement.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully, said the Masterplan will help strengthen McQuade Park as a key community space and deliver lasting benefits for the Hawkesbury.
"McQuade Park is one of the Hawkesbury's most significant public spaces, and this project will help revitalise the park, so it continues to support sport, recreation and community connection."
"With Council's partnership, we're investing in quality open space that better serves local families and visitors."
Hawkesbury City Mayor, Councillor Les Sheather saidthe Masterplan is an important step in supporting a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable community space.
"McQuade Park is one of Windsor's most iconic and cherished places. This project gives us the opportunity to protect its heritage while planning thoughtful improvements that will serve families, sporting groups, and visitors well into the future," said Mayor Sheather.
The McQuade Park Masterplan will deliver,
- A comprehensive review of the entire park, informed by previous engagement and input from key stakeholders and the wider community.
- New landscape plans for all precincts within the park including the McQuade Oval Precinct, Don't Worry Oval Precinct, War Memorial Precinct, and the Passive Recreation Precinct.
- Plans to interpret and celebrate the site's heritage significance.
- Opportunities to reduce hard surfaces, increase lighting, improve safety and integrate pathway networks.
- Concept plans addressing building structures throughout the park
- Updated wayfinding and interpretive signage.
The Masterplan will support McQuade Park's role as a vibrant destination for sport, recreation and community gatherings. It will embed connection to Country and cultural narratives throughout the design, while promoting sustainability and accessibility for all users.
Community input will be a central part of the process, with opportunities for residents to share their ideas and feedback towards the Masterplan to be made available soon.
