Matt Kean Appointed As CCA Chair

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Australian Government will appoint the Honourable Matt Kean as the new Chair of the Climate Change Authority (CCA).

The CCA is an independent statutory body. It advises the government on climate change policy.

Mr Kean's appointment follows the resignation of Mr Grant King, effective from August. Mr King led the delivery of two Annual Progress Reports to the Minister, and several legislative and independent reviews.

Mr Kean is a former NSW Treasurer and Minister for Energy and Environment. He has been a proponent for climate action throughout his career.

He will lead the CCA in its delivery of advice on the 2035 emissions reduction targets and the 2024 annual progress report to inform the Annual Climate Change Statement to Parliament.

Mr Kean will commence his role as Chair of the CCA in early August.
