Nouakchott, October 31, 2024 - The Islamic Republic of Mauritania will host a high-level forum on livestock and pastoralism in the Sahel and West Africa from November 6 to 8, 2024. Under the theme "Nouakchott+10: A Decade of Action for Pastoral and Agropastoral Communities - Achievements and Future Pathways," this event marks ten years since the Ndjamena and Nouakchott Declarations, which established objectives to secure the livelihoods and production systems of pastoralist communities.
Organized by the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) in partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the World Bank Group, the Nouakchott Forum will review a decade of unprecedented investments and initiatives in pastoralism and livestock management across the Sahel and West Africa. High-level government officials from the region, technical and financial partners, pastoral and agropastoral representatives, private sector stakeholders, and sector experts will gather to examine the successes, critical challenges, and chart a strategic course to strengthen this vital sector for West African economies.
