The G21 - Geelong Region Alliance Board of Directors has elected City of Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher as its new Chairperson.
Deakin University's Chief Operating Officer Kean Selway was elected as Deputy Chair.
Mayor Asher said she was honoured by the appointment.
"I'm delighted to accept the role of Chair of G21, an organisation with which I have been involved in various ways for more than 15 years," Mayor Asher said.
"As we enter a new phase with all member councils, and the G21 Region Alliance itself under a new CEO, it is a particularly exciting time to be at the helm.
"I look forward to working with the new CEO, along with the many new faces around the board table, G21 members and stakeholders, to drive the momentum for prosperity in the region.
"I welcome Kean Selway to the role of Deputy Chair and, together with the team of well-credentialled and collegiate directors, we will work hard to guide the region to success."
City of Greater Geelong CEO Martin Cutter congratulated Mayor Asher on her appointment.
"G21 has an important role to play in bringing projects that will benefit the Geelong region to the forefront of state and federal government consideration," Mr Cutter said.
"Mayor Asher's appointment as Chair is excellent news for the City of Greater Geelong, as it's vital we continue to have a strong collaborative relationship with G21 to achieve our mutual goals for the strategies, infrastructure and services to drive the future of our wonderful region.
"The City looks forward to continuing to work alongside the G21 member councils."
