Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald is encouraging all Queenslanders to get behind the Toowoomba Region's push to host Equestrian sports as part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Mayor McDonald said he hoped Queenslanders who were considering putting in a submission to the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA) 100-day review of Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Infrastructure, would also give their backing to Toowoomba's Equestrian bid.
"The Toowoomba Region stands ready to play our role in the delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games through the Toowoomba Equestrian Centre (TEC) Project.
"TRC has finalised its own submission to the 100-day review backing Queensland Agricultural Society's push to upgrade the Toowoomba Showgrounds.
"This is a project that was on the table long before the Olympics were announced for South East Queensland and ticks all the boxes of GIICA's 100-day review.
"Most notably, the project delivers on benefits for regional Queensland from the delivery of the Games as well as the all-important legacy element. This is a project that will benefit Queenslanders for the next 50 years," Mayor McDonald said.
"The benefits are clear and that's why I'm encouraging all Queenslanders to get behind us and back the project in when considering a submission to the 100-day review.
"Anyone can put their hand up and submit what they'd like to see built and delivered for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games and we'd love to see the general public continuing to support the TEC project," he said.
The proposed TEC will deliver Queenslanders a world-class equestrian facility that broadens its capability to provide equestrian events at the State, National, and International levels.
It will also be a viable option to deliver equestrian sports for the 2032 Games and will provide athlete pathways, rider education, and social and commercial opportunities to benefit Queensland for generations.
