Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall used a Mayoral Minute to outline the priorities for Bayside Council during his Mayoral term at a Council Meeting on Wednesday 23 October, and also thanked his fellow Councillors for their support.
Mayor Edward McDougall highlighted, open space, the protection of the environment, revitalising Town Centres, combatting hooning and embracing the 24-hour economy as some of the issues that Council will be focusing on.
Bayside is a unique, vibrant community, but as Council grows toward accommodating over 10,000 new homes in the next five years, investing in amenities, open spaces and services is vital to meet the growing needs of our community.
Council will soon consider a new Developer Contributions Plan that will provide an opportunity develop a 15-year infrastructure plan that will include passive and active recreation opportunities.
Council will continue to protect the stunning 8km of foreshore that defines our area while ensuring local business strips remain viable and practical for our growing community.
Council will also continue to invest in revitalising our Town Centres to ensure they evolve and thrive for the benefit of residents, businesses, and visitors.

"I would like us to focus on revitalising our local town centres. It's fantastic to see areas like Botany evolve from a heavy industrial area one of the best food and drink hubs in Sydney. Sadly, we have also witnessed the slow decline of centres such as Rockdale. We need to ensure our town centres don't just become throughfares but instead become vibrant, sought-after destinations that people want to visit and enjoy."
"I would like to see Council to embrace the 24-hour economy, bring live music back to Sydney, and develop thriving local spaces that nurture businesses, the creative sector, and the wider community, Mayor Edward McDougall said.
