PUBLIC QUESTION TIME
There were several questions from a local Queenstown resident regarding a recent development application submission that was submitted to Council at the August 2021 meeting.
MOTION WITHOUT NOTICE
Cr Ryan–Sykes Question in relation to the letter dated 10 September (outgoing correspondence), to the State Minister for Health regarding home care packages, and the 20 packages provide by THS. How many people are on the waiting list applying for packages? Has Council approached any private providers? According to the Federal Minister for Health there are 400 people on the waiting list on the Northwest region. The West Coast is included in the Northwest region. The problem being there is no brokerage available to put services on the ground. We know on the West Coast we have over 800 over 65's and over 200 over 75's but we only have 20 packages. There is a navigation service in Rosebery which is provide by Family Based Care. The General Manager and Mayor will meet with the State Minister for Health and the Federal Minister for Aged Care in the near future for discussion on health related items. Cr Ryan–Sykes Question in relation to letter dated 13 September 2021 to Minister Courtney and Deputy Premier regarding Risk to Youth on the West Coast, saying the letter refers to a lack of drop-in centres and youth services on the West Coast. Cr Ryan-Sykes asked if the letter was better addressed to the Minister responsible for those services, as some of those matters relate to parenting and services provided through Neighbourhood Centres. He asked if Council had approached the state government for public housing options? The letter in question was sent to the Education Minister because the letter came from the Education & Training Committee. The Mayor was confident that the Minister would pass the letter onto other relevant Ministers as required, advised that the Deputy Premier is responsible for mental health. The Mayor advised that Council has approach the government for public housing and also crown land which may be allocated for public housing use. |
