McCormack Pushes for Temora Rec Centre A/C

NSW Nationals

Nationals Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, says a Federal Coalition Government will invest $70,000 to replace air conditioning at the Temora Recreation Centre.

"Users of the centre have voiced concerns about the heat during warm weather and new air conditioning will make it more comfortable to play high-energy sports, such as basketball, during summer," Mr McCormack said.

"The current air conditioning is not up to the task.

"This project has been identified by Temora Shire Council as something the community really needs and I am pleased to back it.

"Temora is one of most sport active communities in rural and regional Australia, with a proud history of producing champions across many sports, but to continue to do that it needs the very best facilities.

"That's why I am backing this upgrade of the Temora Recreation Centre.

"The families of regional towns, such as Temora, need, deserve and expect the infrastructure equal to that available in the cities."

Temora Mayor Rick Firman OAM described the air conditioning project as crucial for Temora.

"It would mean so much and would encourage new participants and retain current participants," Councillor Firman said.

"The Summer heat reduces usage of the centre, so the opportunity to make it more appealing during those Summer months will definitely increase the usability of the space."

Temora Basketball Association President Alicia Goodfellows described the recreation centre as a great facility but Summer temperatures inside the building were sometimes higher than outside, making use problematic for the many user groups, including basketball which was predominantly played in Summer.

"An air conditioning upgrade will be amazing because it will increase the usage during the Summer periods," Ms Goodfellows said.

Cr Firman thanked Mr McCormack for fighting for Temora residents and better facilities for them.

"Michael has always backed Temora and we know we can count on him being in our corner in the fight for better infrastructure and services," Cr Firman said.

Mr McCormack said the investment was part of The Nationals' continuing commitment to delivering better facilities for rural and regional Australians.
