Nationals Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, says an $80,000 contribution by a Federal Coalition Government for pool blankets at the Lockhart and The Rock public pools will give families weeks more to enjoy their sport and recreation swimming.
"This is a wonderful project for two fantastic Riverina communities," Mr McCormack said.
"Lockhart Shire Council has invested a lot of money in refurbishing the pools over recent years," Mr McCormack said.
"They are so good that visitors, including schools from outside Lockhart Shire, go there for a day out or for their swimming carnivals.
"Pool blankets will enable the swimming season - currently October to March - to be extended so the pools remain open to the community for longer."
Lockhart Shire Council Mayor Peter Sharp described the pool blankets as a very good thing for the communities who use the two pools.
"They will extend our swimming season," Councillor Sharp said. "The blankets will help warm the water and will save some money in electricity.
"I think it's going to be a very good thing generally."
Councillor Sharp thanked Mr McCormack for fighting for the pool blankets for local families.
"Michael is in tune with community needs and is a terrific advocate for small communities," Cr Sharp said.
Mr McCormack said the investment was part of The Nationals' continuing commitment to delivering better facilities for rural and regional Australians.
