Minister must stand up against latest buybacks
Victoria's northern communities have been hit with another round of damaging buybacks by the Albanese Labor Government – and it is time for the state's Water Minister to step up.
The Victorian Water Minister, Gaelle Tierney, must take the fight to Canberra after what is a clearly rushed pre-election stunt that will punish Victorian farmers.
Buybacks have long been opposed by the Victorian Government, with Shadow Minister for Water, Tim McCurdy, challenging Ms Tierney to end her silence and stand up for Victoria's basin communities.
"Canberra's consultation is a sham that ignores farmers, irrigators and basin communities completely," Mr McCurdy said.
"Victorian Water Minister Gayle Tierney should have been on the phone to Tanya Plibersek as soon as the latest round kicked off.
"We need a Water Minister that is willing to stand up to the Federal Labor Government and fight for us.
"Words are nice, but action is better; I ask the Minister, where does she stand, and will she join the Liberals and Nationals in this fight?"
