ALFA Medical & Skin Clinic practice nurse Evan Forbes can't help but smile when he talks about his role as a primary care nurse.
"Being a nurse brings me so much joy," Mr Forbes said. "I chose this profession because I genuinely wanted to help people and ensure they receive the care they deserve".
"Working as a practice nurse allows me to support people during their most vulnerable moments - when they're unwell and in need of someone to truly care for them".
"Knowing that I can make a positive difference in their lives, even in small ways, is what drives me every day."
Mr Forbes said ongoing education and training from the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) corporate membership was key to enhancing his skills and his ability to offer better care to patients.
The membership, funded by Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN), helps the medical centre build nurse capacity with access to online training and peer support.
"The APNA corporate membership provides on-tap professional development on a variety of subjects and topics when I need it," Mr Forbes said.
"I mainly use it for the education portal, however, there are many other benefits like attending workshops and seminars too".
"I enjoy having the variety of professional development education readily available for me to use whenever I need it, or when I want to learn about different topics to broaden my clinical knowledge."
ALFA Medical & Skin Clinic Practice Manager Amanda Herd said having an APNA Corporate Membership meant better outcomes for patients.
"Our patients benefit from better care through highly trained nurses, with a stronger focus on preventive and holistic care, improved systems, and greater access to services," Ms Herd said.
"This membership also boosts our Employee Value Proposition with tailored learning programs, recruitment and marketing support, and advocacy opportunities.
"We gain access to up-to-date resources, expert advice, industry news, and the ability to shape policies while enjoying exclusive benefits."
There are 170 practice nurses in northern Queensland with APNA corporate memberships.
