10am - 12pm | Saturday 7 December 2024
Step into the world of everyday heroes this December as the artists behind Sprung Dance Theatre's Suburban Superheroes exhibition, currently on display at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery (NCRG), take you on an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of their works, followed by an Artist Talk with some of the key creatives behind the exhibition.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant collection of portraits taken in and around Ballina and gain unique insights into the stories that bring each superhero to life. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just curious about the extraordinary within the ordinary, don't miss this unique opportunity to see the exhibition through the artist's eyes!
Following the tour will be an Artist Talk, diving deep into the creative process behind the exhibition. Facilitated by artist and arts educator Claudie Frock and featuring key creative collaborators Daniele Constance, Sarah Lewis (Lewis), and Sprung Ensemble members, discover how ordinary suburban spaces can become a canvas for extraordinary storytelling through costume-making, photography and site-specific work. Hear the way themes of imagination, identity and community shape each artwork, and transform everyday experiences into powerful narratives, and how the artists were inspired by their connection to local spaces in Ballina.
This tour and talk will be Auslan interpreted.
Sprung Ensemble Artist Tara Coughlan says about the tour:
"I'm looking forward to talking about my experiences at the photo shoot and my love of costumes and fashion design!"
Sprung Creative Director Daniele Constance says about this event:
"The Suburban Superheroes exhibition is an exciting new disability-led work which champions representation and challenges societal perspectives…This artist-led exhibition tour and artist talk is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the creatives as they share how this work was made and why it's so important to all of us."
The Artist-led exhibition tour will commence at 10am, and the Artist Talk will commence at 11am. This event is free, and no registrations are required. Seating for the Artist Talk will be available subject to capacity.
