After being postponed in February due to statewide COVID-19 restrictions, the Powercor Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic will be back on the road on Saturday May 1.
The new date sees the historic race slot in between other races within the 'Classics season' that form part of the National Road Series, namely the Tour de Brisbane (April 11) and the Grafton to Inverell (May 8).
A strong field of riders is set to compete, including defending champions Matilda Raynolds and Brendan Johnston plus likely Olympics competitors Luke Plapp, Kelland O'Brien, Sam Welsford and Leigh Howard.
Also on the cycling agenda for the day will be the popular Port Campbell to Warrnambool Handicap, giving all cyclists the chance to experience the atmosphere of the prestigious event in a more achievable format.
HOW TO WATCH
The race starts at Avalon Airport in the morning and finishes on Raglan Parade near Liebig Street. Riders are expected to cross the finish line about 2pm - 3pm, but this is just a guide.
The final 100km of the race (from approximately 11.30am) will be streamed live on the SBS Cycling Central Facebook page with the audio commentary on 3YB/Coast FM. As well as allowing you to follow the race live, both of these methods are a great way to see how far away the riders are from Warrnambool.
The race will also be shown on a big screen near the finishing line. If attending the race in-person, please maintain good COVID-safe habits.
Riders taking part in the Port Campbell to Warrnambool Handicap are expected to arrive about noon.
