Background
In recent years, the Australian Government, the NDIA and the NDIS Commission have conducted a number of inquiries, which have looked into aspects of platform providers, SIL and Support Coordination.
These have included:
- recent consultations to inform the development of new NDIS Practice Standards for SIL
- the NDIS Review
- the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission)
- the NDIS Registration taskforce consultations.
In the inquiries, it was found that significant work is needed to safeguard NDIS Participants who use platform providers, SIL and support coordination.
In response to this, the Minister for Government Services and the NDIS, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, announced in September 2024 that mandatory registration would be introduced for all platform providers and providers of supported independent living (SIL) and support coordination.
The NDIS Commission is currently accepting feedback on this proposal and would like to hear from people with disability on matters such as:
- the approach to registration
- the impact on NDIS participants
- the impact on providers.
Consultations close on 7 March 2025. You can read the consultation papers and learn more about the consultation and respond directly on the NDIS Commission website.
You can also fill out our survey and your feedback will be included in PWDA's submission.
