Men Charged in Walgett for Drugs, Firearms Offences

Police have charged two men with numerous drugs and firearms offences in north-western New South Wales.

About 6.30am yesterday (Tuesday 25 March 2025) police from Central North Police District attached to Strike Force Meningie stopped and searched a vehicle on the Gwydir Highway, Collarenebri.

Police spoke with driver – a 34-year-old man – and allegedly located an unregistered .22 calibre rifle, forty rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and 7.44 grams of cannabis.

The man was arrested and taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug - ongoing basis, possess prohibited drug, possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm, possess ammunition, breach ADVO, stalk/intimidate and use carriage service - threaten to kill.

About 9am yesterday (Tuesday 25 March 2025) police from Central North Police District attached to Strike Force Meningie arrested a 35-year-old man at an address on Euroka Street, Walgett.

A search warrant was executed at the property where police allegedly located six resealable plastic bags containing small quantities of a crystalline substance and other items associated with drug supply. Clothing believed to be associated with an outlaw motorcycle group was also seized.

The man was taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug - ongoing basis, supply prohibited drug - small quantity, possess prohibited drug, acquire ammunition subject to firearms prohibition order and owner/occupier operate drug premises.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Lightning Ridge Local Court today (Thursday 26 March 2025).
