NSW Farmers is proud to join rural leaders in launching a new appeal for immediate action to address the mental health crisis in Australian agriculture.
Together with a coalition of more than 30 organisations, we are calling on the Australian Government to invest in $50 million over five years to address the rural mental health crisis.
Poor mental health - and a lack of resources to address this - is causing great pain to farmers, families and communities across rural, regional and remote Australia.
Every 10 days, an Australian farmer dies by suicide, and close to a third of all farmers have reported a decline in their mental health in recent years.
Australia must take action to improve and protect the physical and mental wellbeing of farmers and rural communities for decades to come.
This will only be possible if we have the right resources in place, delivering coordinated, farmer-friendly, evidence-based support to those who need it.
