The Department of Planning and Environment is hitting the road in April and May to meet with water users in southern inland NSW to provide information about the non-urban water metering rules that are being rolled out across the state over the next 21 months.
Executive Director of Policy and Strategy, Kaia Hodge said there will be five water metering roadshows to give water users from Albury to Broken Hill, and everywhere in between, the chance to meet with industry experts and learn about their obligations.
"We're delivering a robust water metering framework to better manage the use of water in NSW for current and future generations," Ms Hodge said.
"The roadshows are an opportunity for water users to pick the brains of our industry experts to help them understand what the new non-urban metering rules mean for them and to ensure they have the information they need to comply with the framework.
"We know introducing new requirements comes with challenges, so we're doing everything we can to step up our support for water users as the 1 December compliance date approaches.
"Water is a precious resource and if we can't measure it, we can't ensure that it is managed fairly and efficiently. Whether you use a little or a lot of water, every drop counts and needs to be measured accurately."
The roadshows will include a Q&A session, presentations from the Department of Planning and Environment, WaterNSW and the Natural Resources Access Regulator.
There will also be an opportunity for water users to connect with metering suppliers and installers.
For those who cannot attend in person there will also be a webinar on 5 May between 10am and midday.
The roadshow will visit:
- Albury Entertainment Centre, 26 April -11am to 2pm
- Deniliquin Golf Club, 27 April - 10am to 1pm
- Griffith Exies Club, 28 April -10am to 1pm
- Broken Hill Civic Centre, 17 May - 10am to 1pm
- Dareton, Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club, 18 May - 9am to 12pm
