City of Adelaide Acting Chief Executive Officer Michael Sedgman has been chosen to lead the organisation for the next three years as its Chief Executive Officer.
Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith said Mr Sedgman demonstrated a superior understanding of the many challenges and opportunities Council faces, as well as an in-depth understanding of the strategic plan and goals of the organisation
"It was an extensive and thorough recruitment process which began back in January and, the selection panel, following its many meetings and deliberations found Michael to be the outstanding candidate," said the Lord Mayor.
"There is no doubt Michael is one of the most highly qualified and experienced local government professionals in Australia and is the best candidate to lead our organisation into the future.
"Beyond his skills in strategic planning, Michael is a strong communicator, astute manager of finances and has a wealth of experience in areas such as governance, major projects and human resource management.
"He is passionate about local government as well as our city and has a strong connection with our staff.
"Importantly, Michael also has strong existing relationships with city leaders and stakeholders, as well as with leaders within state government and the local government sector.
"Michael will hit the ground running because he understands our strengths and where we need to focus our energy in the future.
"I congratulate Michael on his appointment and look forward to continuing to work closely with him."
Mr Sedgman formally commences as Chief Executive Officer immediately.

Michael Sedgman has extensive experience as a senior executive with expertise in strategic financial management, corporate governance and people leadership in a range of roles in both the private and public sectors.
Before returning to the City of Adelaide in May 2023 as Chief Operating Officer, Michael was the Chief Executive Officer of the Rural City of Murray Bridge from 2015 to 2023.
Prior to this Michael held senior roles in state and local government with the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, the City of Adelaide from 2006 to 2013 and the City of Yarra in Melbourne.
Michael is a Fellow of CPA Australia, a Fellow of Governance Institute Australia, a Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute, holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Commercial Law.
