Construction of the new residential care wing of the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre is complete, with patients now moved into their new and improved facilities.
The new residential wing, which brings the total number of healthcare beds at the Centre to 30, includes 8 bedrooms, each with modern ensuites complete with various enabling equipment, nurse's station, storage and a staff tearoom.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said that today's announcement was positive for the entire Midlands.
"The Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre is the only facility of its type in the area and these upgrades will help deliver high quality care closer to home for so many Tasmanians," Minister Barnett said.
"This means increased care capacity, improved patient safety, comfort, and better working conditions for staff.
"This project is part of the Tasmanian Government's commitment to investing in upgraded health infrastructure, helping to meet future demands for health services and the delivery of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
"Construction work started in February 2024 and was completed at the end of September, on-time, and on-budget.
"Works on the new wing were completed by local construction group Macquarie Builders, who are also delivering the new Oatlands Ambulance Station, supporting jobs and the local economy."
Development of Stage 2 will now progress, it includes the complete refurbishment of the Callington Wing providing the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre an additional 8-bed capacity, along with modernised and upgraded facilities.
