Federation Council's long standing exchange program with Miki City, has been on hold during 2020 and now into 2021, due to restricted International travel.
With both cities committed to maintaining ongoing communications and building on the relationship that has been in place for 23 years, gift sharing between the cities is currently taking place.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Pat Bourke, who is also a member of the Miki City Advisory Committee said it was fantastic that both cities could be innovative in respect to building their ongoing relationship due to COVID.
"A wonderful video has been received showcasing key attractions in Miki City and messages wishing all of Federation Council and its community well into 2021," Mayor Bourke said.
"It is such a beautiful gesture. Also 'The story of the Miki Gimin' produced by Miki International has been received which promotes the history of Miki to young people and to its International sister cities."
The production of the Miki Gimin story, which took two years to develop, has been supported by the Miki Lions Club, volunteer translators and a local artist.
Mayor Bourke said Council is so fortunate to have a relationship with such a wonderful city, who so warmly embrace the opportunity to share information with and develop relationships between our young people.
"Federation Council has organized a gift to students and chaperones who were to visit here in 2020, and for Miki City, including an Australian Flora and Fauna book, boomerangs made by the Bangerang Community Centre and messages from our local students and Miki City Advisory Committee members," he said.
"We are proud of our links with traditional owners in the Federation region, and being able to have beautiful locally made and decorated boomerangs, which depict the aboriginal community and their presence here, makes us so proud to be able to share with Miki City. We also hope the recipients enjoy reading about Australian flora and fauna and the messages from our local community."
A video will be produced in the near future which will showcase the Federation Council area and will include messages from the community.
