Major infrastructure works are complete on the South West Pipeline, the biggest addition to the South East Queensland Water Grid since 2012.
The project has supported more than 100 jobs during construction, with almost 90% of these jobs filled by local tradespeople.
The pipeline is already improving the performance of the Beaudesert Water Treatment Plant (WTP), with water from the Logan supply network being gravity-fed through 27-kilometres of pipeline to supplement local supply.
Final commissioning works including the installation of the electrical and pump systems are expected to be completed soon.
Once commissioned, water will flow at an increased rate through the pipeline and the new Wyaralong Transfer Station, which links the large storage reservoirs at the Beaudesert WTP to the SEQ Water Grid, via a connection at Flagstone.
As stated by Minister for Water, Glenn Butcher:
"This project ensures long-term water security for the Scenic Rim region, delivering a clean, safe and secure supply of drinking water.
"I'm pleased to see this important project supporting 100 jobs during construction.
"When they were last in government, the LNP said new water infrastructure must be delivered by the private sector. So under the LNP, there'd be no grid connection for Beaudesert and the Scenic Rim.
"The LNP are about cheap fixes; we are ensuring this community has a safe water supply well into the future."
As stated by Member for Logan, Linus Power:
"It's great to see this project move into the next phase – this has been a big construction effort along the pipeline route.
"The new proposed Wyaralong Water Treatment Plant will connect to this pipeline to ensure this community has the infrastructure to deliver enhanced water supply into the future.
"It is fantastic to see more than 100 jobs supported off the back of this project."
