The Miles Government is committing $7 million to undertake planning work on Buchanan Road in Morayfield, which aims to ease congestion and accommodate the region's projected growth.
The Buchanan Road upgrade planning project is being delivered by City of Moreton Bay, as part of a 50:50 funding partnership.
The project will focus on upgrades at locations along the road where congestion is the most severe to help people get around quicker.
The funding has been made available through the $100 million Local Congestion Busting Program, which targets improvements to the road network that reduce congestion, by mitigating traffic delays caused by "bottle necks", particularly at intersections.
The new Local Congestion Busting Program forms part of the biggest ever Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program, with a total $37.4 billion in transport investment committed in communities across the state to support jobs and economic growth.
As stated by Premier Steven Miles:
"I know busting traffic on this busy road, right in my backyard, is really going to matter to my community.
"More and more people want to call Queensland home, which is why we're working together with all levels of government to deliver these critical road projects.
"I know this will make the drive to work, school or the shops a little bit easier and am looking forward to seeing work get underway."
As stated by the Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish:
"This section of Buchanan Road and William Berry Drive – between Morayfield Road and the Bruce Highway – is a key road through this area and considered vital to accommodate the region's growth over the coming years.
"We know that transport is critically important in allowing people to get on with their lives – be it working in the city, dropping the kids at school, getting to and from medical appointments or making deliveries.
"The Miles Government's new Local Congestion fund will improve bottlenecks to make a real difference to people's lives through reducing the time wasted in traffic and allowing them to get on with the things that really matter.
"I'm proud to be working with City of Moreton Bay to deliver this project because we know how significant this upgrade is.
"Under an LNP government, investment in local roads would be non-existent.
"We know they cut $1.6 billion to road and transport funding and sacked 700 Roadtek road builders when last in power."
"They can't be trusted to deliver the congestion-busting infrastructure our growing state needs."

"It will also improve east-west connectivity to alleviate traffic congestion on the Bruce Highway.
