Minister for Transport Visits Bland Shire
Bland Shire Council today welcomed NSW Minister for Transport, the Hon. Jenny Aitchison, for a visit focused on discussing local transport priorities and the urgent need for increased road funding in the region.
Minister Aitchison was joined by Bland Shire Councillors, representatives from Transport for NSW, and Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke for a meeting in the Council Chambers before a site inspection of the Girral Road upgrade works. This significant project is being jointly funded by the NSW State Government and Bland Shire Council.
The visit provided an important opportunity to showcase the condition of local roads and advocate for further investment in road improvement programs.
"With a small rate base and the second-largest road network in New South Wales, Bland Shire Council relies on government support to upgrade and maintain roads to the standard our community deserves," said Mayor Brian Monaghan. "Our region contributes over $1.25 billion in export value each year, and it's only fair that we see a return on that through investment in critical infrastructure."
A range of transport and infrastructure issues were discussed during the Minister's visit, highlighting the challenges faced by rural councils and the critical importance of continued state support.
Council extends its sincere thanks to Minister Aitchison for taking the time to visit the Bland Shire and engage directly with local leaders on matters of vital importance to the future of our region.
