Minister Joly Heads to South Korea

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Seoul, Republic of Korea (Korea), on July 18, 2024.

While in Seoul, Minister Joly will meet with Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The ministers will discuss the progress made on a number of shared priorities since the implementation of our respective Indo-Pacific strategies, including on international security, economic prosperity, respect for international law, democratic values, protecting our environment, the rights of women and girls and human rights.

Ministers Joly and Cho will exchange on opportunities to deepen collaboration between Canada and Korea on some of the most pressing security issues facing the Indo-Pacific region. They will also discuss the security challenges resulting from the expanding military cooperation between North Korea and Russia since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Minister Joly will also visit the International Vaccine Institute, a non-profit international organization dedicated to enhancing vaccine research, development and worldwide distribution established in 1997 in Seoul.
