Minister Joly to travel to Washington, D.C

Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Washington, D.C., United States, to meet with government officials on September 29 and 30, 2022.

Bound by shared history and geography, the United States and Canada have a strong relationship that endures though time. The United States is Canada's closest partner and strongest ally, and the two countries have the deepest of friendships. At a time when the rules-based international order is being challenged and democracy is threatened, our two countries are stronger when they stand together.

The Minister will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to advance shared priorities under the Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership. They will also discuss their continued collaboration on the pursuit of accountability for Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine while mitigating the invasion's consequences for global food and energy security, strengthening the rules-based international order and addressing challenges in the hemisphere.

She will also meet with several members of the U.S. Congress to collaborate on international issues, including peace and security, disinformation, human rights and democracy.

During her visit, Minister Joly will also participate in the Atlantic Council's Front Page platform to discuss Canada's role in addressing global issues caused by Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine and how to continue supporting the Ukrainian people as they defend their homeland, fight for their freedom and work to rebuild their future.
