Missing person located by police dog

A crafty police hound has managed to locate a man, missing in the Surf Coast area overnight.

The 53-year-old Croydon man was last seen in Wensleydale on 29 December with concerns for his welfare as he did not know the area and spoke limited English.

Patrols were conducted overnight he but was not located.

The search continued this morning with the assistance of SES, Parks Victoria, DELWP and Life Saving Victoria.

Dog Squad canine Toruk was sent in and located the missing man in dense bushland at Breakfast Creek at 11.30am.

The man had become disorientated, fallen and his leg was wedged under a log all night.

The dog managed to locate him as he was concealed by bushes, and he was transported to hospital suffering dehydration and a possible broken leg.
