Mitchell Shire Awards: Winners Set To Be Revealed

Preparations are underway for the annual Mitchell Shire Community Awards and Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day, Sunday 26 January.

The 2025 edition of the celebrations are being organised by the Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell and will be held at the Island Reserve, High Street, Broadford.

The day begins at 7am with a barbecue breakfast, thanks to the Broadford Lions Club. There will be live music from the Den-Yt band as well as kid's activities, community displays, food trucks, a coffee van and a Tug-O-War challenge.

This will be followed by Mitchell Shire Council's Community Awards at 11am, where seven categories will be awarded:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Community Group of the Year
  • Access and Inclusion
  • Sports Person of the Year
  • Arts Person of the Year

The Citizenship Ceremony will be conducted after the awards.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor John Dougall highlighted that these awards offer a chance to celebrate the often-overlooked individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes within our community.

"Our local sporting clubs, service groups, charities, and many other organisations rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers," he said.

"This event also provides an opportunity to welcome new residents who will make Mitchell Shire their home. I'm excited for the day and look forward to seeing everyone there.

"The organisers have put a lot of time and effort into this event, and I know it is going to be a great day out and a chance to be part of a special occasion."

Towns across Mitchell Shire will also be holding their own events. Visit Council's events calendar to see what's happening near you.
