Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence was in Wallan on Thursday 12 December to discuss the implementation of the Fair Access Policy Roadmap.
Since launching in August 2022, the Roadmap has supported councils and the state sport and active recreation sector in creating a state-wide foundation of gender equitable access and use policies and action plans for publicly owned community sports infrastructure, so all Victorians can fully participate in and enjoy the benefits of community sport.
The visit highlighted Council's commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting gender equality in community sports through its own recently endorsed Fair Access Policy.
The event, held at RB Robson Stadium, brought together representatives from local sports organisations, Council staff, and community members to discuss the transformative impact of equitable access to sports infrastructure.
The focus was on ensuring that women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals have equal opportunities to participate in sport-not just as players, but also as coaches, officials, administrators, volunteers, and spectators.
The Fair Access Policy also includes an action plan to identify and address barriers to participation, building the capacity of Council and community sporting groups to champion inclusivity.
By working with local clubs and organisations, Council is leading the way in ensuring that community sports infrastructure meets the needs of all users.
