Murray River Council has been successful in obtaining a grant of $390,500 from Phase Two of the NSW Government's Showground Stimulus Funding Program towards further upgrades at Moama Recreation Reserve.
The works will see improvements to the internal road network, with existing road surfaces at both the Main Oval carpark and Brick Alley oval upgraded to asphalt.
There will also be new seating installed at the Main Oval perimeter along with additional filtered water stations.
Murray River Council Mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey said these works will finish off the main oval surrounds and will be welcome improvements for Recreation Reserve users.
"The upgrades will reduce on-going maintenance and repair of existing facilities and improve the experience for ground users and visitors."
"The installation of additional seating in particular will allow spectators to view events being conducted on the main oval and increase the opportunity for it to be used for other events that bring the community together throughout the year," he said.
Cr Bilkey said the road surface upgrades will also provide more space for parking.
"The works planned at the main oval carpark will not only deliver an improved surface but will also provide a better layout to accommodate parking."
The asphalting works at Brick Alley will also remove the issue of dust and provide a safer passage for users accessing the oval.
"These types of improvements will certainly go a long way for our user groups and spectators. The work will be completed over the next 12 months," he said.
Upper House MP Wes Fang said the Moama Recreation Reserve funding is part of $55.77 million being allocated statewide under the Showground Stimulus Funding Program.
"These showground investments are improving the safety, use and condition of showground infrastructure while stimulating communities with work for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and other trades as well as suppliers," Mr Fang said.
