Five Cells on Wheels (COWs) were deployed to extend Public Safety Network (PSN) coverage in the region in case of an emergency during the event.
In support of the Annual International Southern 80 Water-Ski Race held at Echuca and Moama, NSW Telco Authority deployed five COWs to extend PSN coverage in the region.
Drawing over 100,000 people to the event, boaters and skiers travelled at speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour around 120 bends along 80 kilometres of the Murray River.
Our priority was to ensure uninterrupted portable-grade PSN coverage for NSW Maritime and Emergency Services Organisations. This enabled them to communicate with staff who were in the field monitoring the event and the State Marine Incident Coordination Centre in Rozelle.
The PSN is one of the most important critical communications networks in NSW and one of the largest of its type in the world.
The PSN allows Emergency Services Organisations to communicate and coordinate responses to critical incidents and disasters on a single, shared radio network.
With the support of National Parks and Wildlife Services, NSW Maritime, Murray Valley Council and local landowners who allowed our assets to be deployed on their properties, we were able to help ensure the safety of participants and spectators at the Southern 80.
