A modified V8 has been confiscated and the driver charged after inquiries by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers into burnouts in the Illawarra region.
Police had been investigating reports of burnouts occurring in recent weeks – including on Saturday 28 March 2020 and Sunday 19 April 2020 – at the intersection of Wyndarra Way and Mary Davis Avenue, Koonawarra.
Following inquiries, officers attached to the Lake Illawarra-sector Traffic and Highway Patrol Command went to a home in Galong Crescent, Koonawarra, about 9:40pm yesterday (Friday 24 April 2020), and spoke with a 29-year-old man.
The man's 2003-model V8 Holden Berlina sedan – which police allege had been modified – has been confiscated for three months under Section 239 (1) (a) of the Road Transport Act 2013; the man's driver's licence has also been confiscated for aggravated burnout offences.
The man has now been issued with Future Service Court Attendance Notice for two counts of prolonged sustained loss of traction, and two counts of drive manner dangerous to the public
He is due to appear in Kiama Local Court on Monday 6 July 2020.
