- Four new modular tiny homes have been built in Northam for social housing
- Delivered as part of Cook Labor Government's record $3.6 billion in housing and homelessness measures
As part of the Cook Labor Government's continued reforms to boost social housing across Western Australia, four new modular tiny homes have been completed in Northam.
These four one-bedroom, one-bathroom homes have been built by Summit Homes and follow the first four tiny homes delivered for social housing in Perth's southern suburbs unveiled in March 2024.
Prefabrication is undertaken over approximately 12 weeks and the design and construction method means faster construction time, less time on site, waste reduction, design adaptability and a small on-site building footprint that allows for more extensive landscaping.
This innovative approach to social housing offers the opportunity for an increased number of single bedroom dwellings, within a shorter timeframe.
All four tiny homes have been allocated to people on the public housing waiting list who will be moving in around mid-to-late December 2024.
As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:
"Our Government continues to do everything we can to bolster the supply of social housing across Western Australia - including through our record $3.6 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures.
"Alternative building methods, such as modular construction and tiny homes, has meant a quicker delivery of housing through shorter construction times.
"It's brilliant to see another four new tiny modular buildings completed in Northam and more importantly, these new tiny homes will provide safe, affordable and secure housing to the most vulnerable members of the Northam community.
"Since the Cook Labor Government's record $3.6 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, we've added more than 2,550 social homes, with more than 1,000 social homes currently under contract or construction throughout Western Australia."
