Moil Arrest: Domestic Violence, Firearm Offenses

The Northern Territory Police Force have arrested a 33-year-old male in relation a domestic violence disturbance that occurred in Moil yesterday afternoon.

Around 4pm, police received a report that a large disturbance was occurring in moil between two family groups as a result of a domestic violence incident that occurred on the previous evening.

On Saturday 18 January, the victim and the alleged offender were on a duck hunting trip when they became involved in a verbal argument, during the argument, the male allegedly discharged the firearm.

On Sunday 19 January, it reported to police that the alleged offender was in possession of the firearm and was driving to the Bagot Community.

Darwin and Palmerston General Duties officers as well as Darwin Road Policing officers established a cordon and the offender's vehicle was apprehended at the entrance of the community.

A search of the vehicle identified an edged weapon, a baseball bat, and an imitation firearm.

The 33-year-old male returned a positive roadside breath test and was arrested at the scene for domestic violence and traffic related offences.

The firearm involved in the incident on Saturday was later surrendered and confirmed to be registered.

Investigations are ongoing.
