Moira Shire Council Advocacy Plan Aims for Community Betterment

Moira Shire Council has developed an Advocacy Plan to support our vision of becoming a welcoming, healthy, and sustainable community that promotes diversity, business innovation, and inclusion.

Adopted at the Scheduled Council Meeting on Wednesday 26 June 2024, the 2024 – 2025 Advocacy Plan focuses on seven priorities:

  1. Road Safety
  2. Water Buy Backs
  3. Family & Gender-Based Violence
  4. Disaster Readiness
  5. Housing
  6. Digital Connectivity
  7. Yarrawonga-Mulwala Bridge

Moira Shire Council's Chair Administrator, Dr Graeme Emonson PSM, said that the Advocacy Plan will enable Moira Shire Council to focus its efforts on being a voice connecting the community with key government decision-makers.

"The 2024 – 2025 Advocacy Plan will be used to work with the Victorian, New South Wales, and Australian Governments to secure investment in our region and support positive outcomes for the community," said Dr Emonson.

"The seven advocacy priorities span a range of critical areas, each chosen for its significant impact on the wellbeing and future of our communities, and all where advocacy can make a difference. We understand, however, that opportunities may arise and priorities can change over time. We will continue to advocate for the needs of our communities, even when they fall outside of the Advocacy Plan."

Moira Shire Council provides civic leadership in advocating to the Victorian, New South Wales, and Australian Governments and work closely with local Members of Parliament to address the issues that affect our communities.

Council will lead advocacy efforts through direct and formal submissions, raising public awareness using communication channels, and collaborating with other groups and organisations to strengthen our proposals and positions.
