Moira Shire Council has welcomed the announcement from the Federal Government that it will receive $800,000 to support the development of a Thompsons Beach Precinct Plan.
The precinct plan will be the key to unlocking investment into the iconic inland beach destination, drive economic growth, enhance tourism, and foster stronger connections between communities along the NSW and Victorian border.
Council's Chair Administrator, Dr Graeme Emonson PSM, was thrilled with the announcement, highlighting the importance of the Thompsons Beach Precinct to the region.
"Thompsons Beach has gained national recognition in recent years, with Tourism Australia ranking it as the twelfth best beach in their 2022 Best Australian Beach campaign, and TripAdvisor naming it the 'biggest inland beach in Australia'," Dr Emonson said.
"There is a desire to further activate the precinct, positioning it as a central area for community growth and engagement and this project has been led in conjunction with other key stakeholders such as Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism, Regional Development Victoria and the Berrigan Shire Council, who have all been pivotal in securing this funding. We thank Minister King and the Federal Government for their support of this important project."
The funding, delivered through the Government's regional Precincts and Partnerships Program (rPPP), is part of a broader commitment to bolstering local jobs, tourism, and cultural opportunities in regional Victoria.
The Thompsons Beach Precinct Plan is among several key projects being funded through the rPPP, alongside upcoming initiatives in Hamilton, Mansfield, and Cowes, all aimed at strengthening regional economies and supporting vibrant local communities.
The Thompsons Beach Precinct Plan will serve as a guide to infrastructure developments at this site into the future.
