Monash is committed to creating an environment free of violence, where our whole community is safe, welcomed, respected and thriving.
In continuing our work towards achieving this vision, Monash has released its Strategic Commitment to Gender-based Violence and Sexual Harm Prevention (2024-2030) (Strategic Commitment).
The Strategic Commitment outlines Monash's work in preventing and responding to gender-based violence and sexual harm and is part of the University's ongoing work to prevent discrimination, vilification, harassment, violence and any other unlawful behaviour, as set out in Impact 2030 and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework (2023-2030).
Monash's commitment to preventing and responding to sexual harm and gender-based violence extends beyond our University, and through the Strategic Commitment, we continue to work towards eliminating gender-based violence and sexual harm in higher education settings.
Action Plan
To support the implementation of the Strategic Commitment, Monash has released the first of its two-phase approach, the Prevention and Response Action Plan 2024-2025. The Action Plan outlines 33 new and existing actions that Monash will undertake to enhance gender-based violence and sexual harm prevention and response interventions.
The responsibility for actions outlined in the plan will be shared across the University, including across faculties, divisions, portfolios, institutes and student organisations.
Annual Report
Our Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Annual Report 2023 builds on the inaugural Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Annual Report 2022, with sections covering governance, the National Student Safety Survey Action Plan 2022-2023, and prevention, response and priorities for 2024. The 2023 Annual Report includes an important expansion of response data to include the University's Malaysia and Indonesia campuses.
As we continue our work to ensure a safe and respectful culture across our campuses and beyond, we resolutely support victims-survivors, respond swiftly and empathetically to all disclosures and reports, and provide a diverse and evidence-based range of prevention programming for staff and students.
