Monash University has strengthened its reputation as a global top-50 university with an increase in the number of subjects ranking in the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.
A total of 21 Monash subjects placed in the top 50 globally, up from 15 last year, including one subject – Marketing – entering the top 50 with its first-ever ranking in the 2024 list.
Overall, Monash ranked in the top 100 for 45 narrow subjects out of 49 assessed by QS, up from 40 last year, in each of the broad subject areas, including:
- Life Sciences & Medicine =31st
- Social Sciences & Management 51st
- Arts & Humanities =64th
- Engineering & Technology =73rd
- Natural Sciences 91st
These rankings are based on both academic and employer reputation, as well as research and impact, highlighting both the excellence of Monash's teaching and research, and the industry success of Monash students.
Professor Sharon Pickering, Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, said these latest results are a credit to the exceptional dedication, expertise and collaboration of staff across the University.

The Australian Federal Government's 2023 QILT Graduate Outcomes Survey underscores Monash's strong reputation with employers, showing that 82 per cent of Monash domestic undergraduate students reported achieving full-time employment within six months of course completion, our strongest result in recent years.
Monash graduates are employed at an above-average rate across numerous disciplines including nursing, communications, science and mathematics, computing and information systems, and creative arts.
According to the QILT Employer Satisfaction Survey (covering 2020 to 2022), when asked if they would be likely to hire another Monash graduate if given the opportunity, 86 per cent of surveyed graduate employers responded positively.
The University maintains an enviable global reputation for research and teaching excellence, and is ranked in the world's top-50 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2024 (42nd) and the 2022-23 US News and World Report Best Global Universities Rankings (37th) across a range of metrics.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject assess the performance of more than 1500 universities worldwide. The rankings are compiled from an analysis of more than 16.4 million unique papers, 117.8 million citations and global surveys by employers and academics.
