More Affordable Homes On Way In Frankston

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is accelerating the construction of more affordable homes in Frankston, ensuring that more Victorians can live close to jobs, transport, and essential services.

Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny has approved the construction of 62 affordable homes, fast-tracked through the Labor Government's Development Facilitation Program.

The 14-storey building will contain a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes - all of which will be affordable.

Operated and managed by a community housing provider - the building will provide rental homes for people on low to moderate incomes who face challenges securing long-term housing in the private rental market.

These new homes will be well-connected to public transport, including the nearby Frankston train station, and within walking distance of key amenities such as supermarkets, Frankston Hospital, parks, and the waterfront.

The Labor Government is making the Frankston Line level crossing free, and when the Metro Tunnel opens a year ahead of schedule in 2025, it will free up the City Loop and create capacity to deliver more trains, more often along the corridor.

The Labor Government continues to fast-track developments with at least 10 per cent affordable housing that meet requirements through the Development Facilitation Program.

The project supports the Labor Government's landmark Housing Statement, enabling 800,000 new homes to be built over the next decade, in areas located close to jobs, transport and services.

As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny

"By fast-tracking projects like this, we're ensuring that more Victorians have access to safe, secure, and affordable homes-because every Victorian deserves a roof over their head."

As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing

"We're delivering more new homes across Melbourne - because a safe, secure home is the first step in connecting people with the jobs, education, and services they need."

As stated by Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke

"When this building opens its doors, residents will benefit from affordable housing that is well-connected to public transport and close to vital services and the beautiful waterfront."
