EPA Victoria will escalate its enforcement of environmental compliance and contact the corporate and franchise headquarters of McDonalds, Hungry Jacks and KFC after inspections found another five failing environmental laws.
The latest outlets to be fined are Hungry Jacks at 151 Plenty Road, Bundoora, 27 Spencer Street, Thomastown, 336-346 Bell Street, Pascoe Vale South, 1443 - 1445 Sydney Rd, Campbellfield and McDonalds Preston 19-33 Murray Road, Preston.
"We have seen that too many individual outlets have not met their responsibility to properly manage their waste cooking oil and litter. This has a direct impact on the environment with waste oil in particular being allowed to escape to drains which are connected to our waterways," said EPA Director Metro Operations Rachel Gualano.
"In the most recent round of inspections, five outlets were issued infringement notices and each fined $3,952. In 2024, several other outlets in the McDonalds, Hungry Jacks and KFC chains were fined for the same offence.
"There is clearly an issue with either training or business practices and we will again highlight that with the franchise and corporate bosses pointing out again their environmental obligations.
"Cooking oil should not be allowed to leach or be poured down drains. Litter and waste created by a business should be controlled by it. It's everyone's legal duty to act to protect the environment and it's just common sense."
