The Territory Labor Government has increased funding to support organisations that provide care and rehabilitation to the Territory's precious wildlife.
Funding to support the service across the Northern Territory has increased to $250,000 a year, up from $50,000 a year.
The grants are allocated to support groups who provide this service in the Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine regions.
Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisations can now apply for grants of up to $100,000 per year in Darwin, $30,000 a year for Alice Springs, and $20,000 a year for Katherine. Two or more recipients may be awarded grants for the Darwin region.
The NT Government's Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Grants will deliver wildlife care across the Territory for the next five years.
The Territory Labor Government is committed to supporting wildlife rehabilitation organisations that do the hard work in caring for the health, welfare and safety of our animals through collection, rehabilitation and release of sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.
The grants assist wildlife rehabilitating organisations with the operation of a call out service 7 seven days a week from 7am to 8pm to provide advice in relation to sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife, and respond to requests to collect, care and rehabilitate sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.
The Wildlife Grants will be used for costs connected with the collection and care for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife, as well as other operational costs.
These grants will ensure the service level remains high for the community and our wildlife.
Interested groups are encouraged to register with Grants NT and submit a full and detailed application before 30 April 2024.
